Two towns, fifteen minutes apart, and almost nothing in common at the window. Woodland has deep porches, tall original windows and houses older than the people fixing them up. Davis has newer construction, a serious energy-efficiency streak and forty thousand students who all need blinds in August. • This window is a weird shape. Arches, angles and extra-wide sliders are routine. Usually interior shutters or a custom-built shade.
• I cannot reach it. Motorized shades, on a remote, an app, a voice assistant or a schedule, through the Smart Home Collection.
• I want the whole house to finally match. Wood or faux wood blinds through the main rooms, or drapery layered over what you already have.
• The patio is unusable half the year. Exterior shades buy back the afternoon.
• I just want it to look good. Roman and woven wood shades do the most for the least effort.

What Actually Survives a Yolo County Summer?

We get long stretches over a hundred degrees, and the west side of your house takes all of it. Off-the-shelf blinds cover the glass but do nothing to slow the heat coming through it.

Cellular shades are the exception. The honeycomb cells trap a layer of air against the window, the same principle as a double-pane, and on a west-facing bedroom you can feel the difference by evening. Solar shades work the other way, stopping the sun before it becomes heat while leaving the view intact. If cutting cooling costs is why you are calling, say so when we arrive. It changes what we recommend.

Do You Work on Older Woodland Homes?

Often. Historic houses are the opposite of a catalog order: the openings are rarely square and the sills are deeper than modern ones. Shutters tend to suit them, and everything is built for the individual window, so a hundred-year-old opening is not a problem. If you are keeping the character of the house intact, tell us first and we will work inside it.

Is There a Showroom I Can Visit?

No, and that works in your favor. We bring the samples to your house instead, which is the only place the decision can really be made. Fabric that looks warm under showroom lighting can read completely differently in your living room at four in the afternoon.

What Does This Usually Cost?

It depends on the window, and anyone quoting you before they have seen it is guessing. Size drives it most, then material, then motorization. A standard bedroom window and a twelve-foot slider are not the same conversation.
